St David’s offers a short ‘taster’ in Latin for our older pupils in Form 6. Pupils consider the benefits of studying Latin, its basis for modern European languages and which professions may require it. We use a book based on the adventures of a mouse at Vindolanda fort near Hadrian’s Wall. As well as learning verb conjugations, simple grammar and translation; we discuss the Romans in Britain and practise military manoeuvres!
Many of our pupils continue studying Latin at secondary school to GCSE-level and beyond.
