Form 2 went on a trip to Purley on Monday 30th September. This was to link with their topic ‘Our Local Area’ which they are studying in Geography this half-term. The class were very lucky that the rain stayed away and the sun was even shining! On the walk into Purley town centre the children looked at the different types of housing – detached, semi-detached, terraced, bungalows and flats. When in Purley town centre they discussed the different facilities available in the local area, and tried to categorise the buildings they saw into – residential, retail, community, recreation and medical.
They talked about the different human and physical features they could see. The children noticed some things that had been done to make Purley more attractive, such as flowers and art work. They also noticed some things they didn’t like about Purley, such as litter, graffiti and pollution in the air from all the traffic. The class did a survey to find out how many different types of transport they could spot on their walk. The last stop on their trip was Purley Library, where the children had a group photograph and enjoyed collecting conkers that had fallen, before they headed back to school.
Photos from their enjoyable and informative trip can be viewed in the Gallery.
