On Friday 10th May, the Mayans arrived at St David’s. A day of workshops and experiences followed for the children in Forms 3 to 6. Mayan society, religion, games, hunting and sports were all explored enthusiastically by the children. Even Mayan maths was investigated!
The children were able to interact with Mayan artefacts including an obsidian war club, Mayan calendar and enormous headdress – reserved for the highest and most important people in Mayan society. The day culminated in a ceremonial sacrifice to the Gods (sorry Mr Jones!) as the children went home enthused and excited to find out more about the Mayan civilization.
